Once again, a driver going at high rates of speed put the lives of Washingtonians in danger.

According to local news reports, a semi truck driver was traveling too fast for conditions on Tuesday on Highway 2 when it slammed into a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria. The impact pushed the Ford into a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. The semi then continued into the eastbound lane, crashing into a 2004 Lincoln Aviator head on.

Prior to the collision, traffic had slowed down to avoid an accident with a disabled vehicle that was partially blocking the westbound lanes, however, the semi truck driver was not able to slow down in time as it was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The accident, which happened just north of East Wenatchee, involved 12 people. The five Lincoln vehicle occupants were injured and sent to the hospital. After the crash, officials shut down Highway 2 for four hours.

Speed Makes Accidents More Likely To Happen

Officials told news reporters that the accident was caused by the semi truck driver’s decision to go too fast for conditions. This helps to demonstrate just how dangerous it is for anyone to travel at high rates of speed. Semi trucks can be particularly damaging if going at high speeds as larger vehicles can cause a great deal of impact.

We urge Washington drivers who are reading about this accident to take into consideration the risks associated with speeding and recognize the importance of following traffic law regarding speed limits.

When you speed, you can lose control of your vehicle while navigating certain road conditions. You may also find yourself unable to slow down your vehicle quickly enough to avoid a collision, as this accident has shown.

In order to avoid a speed-related crash, you must observe the posted speed limits at all times.
