WSP: Deadly Highway 18 Crash Tied to Distracted Driving

According to the Seattle Times, an accident that took place on Highway 18 is being tied to distracted driving.

The reports show that at least one person died as a result of the accident.

The driver of a Ford 550 pickup truck involved in the crash told officers who responded to the scene of the fatal collision that he had taken his eyes off the road moments prior to the crash. According to the report, the 47-year-old driver allowed his vehicle to crash into a Ford 350 that was hauling a utility trailer. The 40-year-old driver was retrieving a spare tire moments before the accident. Due to the impact caused by the collision, the Ford 350 was struck and killed the 40-year-old. A second victim who was outside of the Ford 350 vehicle was also sent to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Authorities say that the Ford 550 driver wasn’t impaired at the time of the accident.

The crash is now under investigation.

According to Washington State Patrol officers who responded to the scene of the accident, the driver who was killed in the crash was standing outside of his trailer because there was something wrong with the vehicle. As he tried to repair it, he was hit.

While officials did not release the kind of distraction that was tied to the crash, reports show that the driver wasn’t looking at the road moments prior to the collision.
