SR-302 Head-On Collision Kills 1, Injures 2

Media sources reported that a 51-year-old Gig Harbor woman was killed Sunday night in a head-on collision on State Route 302 in Gig Harbor.

According to reports from the Washington State Patrol, the 51-year-old woman was traveling west on State Route 302 with her 14-year-old female passenger when they were struck. The accident happened at about 8:20pm when a 63-year-old Vaughn man was eastbound on SR-302 and his Ford F-150 crossed the centerline and struck the woman’s SUV head-on near 144th Street Northwest.

Emergency crews arrived shortly after the accident and pronounced the 51-year-old woman dead at the scene of the accident. Her 14-year-old passenger was transported to Mary Bridge Hospital for the treatment of unspecified injuries. The 63-year-old driver of the F-150 was taken to St. Joseph Hospital for the treatment of unspecified injuries and to be tested for drugs and alcohol. According to a Washington State Patrol report, authorities have reason to believe that drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor in the accident.

State Route 302 was closed until 11pm to facilitate an investigation and cleanup effort. The crash is being investigated by WSP Troopers as a possible vehicular homicide.

As a Tacoma car accident lawyer, I’m deeply saddened by the news of this tragic accident. In my time as a personal injury lawyer, I’ve seen the devastating effects that accidents like this can have on those left behind. I pray that the family and friends of this woman have the support they need to cope with their loss and my heartfelt condolences go out to them at this time.
