Recall Issued for Vitamins, Consumers Reported Incidents

Multiple news sites have been reporting that certain bottles of compounded vitamins sold nationwide but compounded in Florida are being recalled. This particular recall shouldn’t be ignored mostly because several consumers contacted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration with complaints related to this recall. In many cases, they experienced adverse health events that should have been prevented if the company had pulled these products out of the market earlier.

According to the FDA, the compounded multivitamin capsules implicated in this recall come with high amounts of Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol), which were distributed nationwide by Glades Drugs. These products could cause consumers to experience vitamin D toxicity, leading to life-threatening outcomes if left untreated.

Since consumers who have liver disease or chronic kidney failure may be even more vulnerable than healthy consumers, consumers with the recalled products should not ignore this recall campaign.
Some of the symptoms associated with short-term vitamin D toxicity are usually associated with high calcium levels. They include confusion, increased thirst and urination, loss of appetite, muscle weakness, and vomiting. Acute hypercalcemia could also increase the risk of heart arrhythmias and seizures. The effects of certain heart drugs may also increase if the consumer is being exposed to high levels of calcium in their organism.

If you have the recalled products in your possession and you’re experiencing the symptoms, seek the attention of a doctor right away.

Health care providers are being urged to quarantine any existing recalled product and return them to Glades Drugs. Patients with the recalled products should receive alerts in the mail about this recall as well.

If you have been impacted but you’re not entirely sure of how to have the issue addressed, you may contact the company or click here to read more details on this campaign. Do not wait until you or a loved one has fallen since to act.

Have the products returned and contact the manufacturer immediately. Too often, people delay their responses and incidents take place. Since this recall was launched promptly after reports of illnesses were registered with the company, consumers should not ignore the risks.
