A horrific accident involving a motorcycle resulted in a death. And according to Washington State Patrol troopers, the man was a 65-year-old Texan.
The accident happened near Ritzville, WSP officials said. According to the report, the rider was riding his motorcycle on Interstate 90 when he lost control.
As he was heading east, he tried to change lanes near a construction zone, but wasn’t able to, as he lost control of his vehicle. The 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle ended up crashing at milepost 209 on May 5. Two weeks later, he succumbed to his injuries at the Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
While he suffered injuries that turned out to be life-threatening, the rider was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.
Motorcycle Accidents Happen More Often Than We Think
News outlets aren’t always on top of motorcycle accidents, as not all of them are serious or fatal. Still, an accident will always cost you.
Unfortunately, many motorcycle crashes happen because the rider is distracted. Others happen because the driver is speeding. Whatever the reason, riders have the power to prevent accidents if they ride carefully and defensively. Furthermore, many motorcycle crashes also happen because drivers are distracted by their phones.
That’s why it’s extremely important to figure out what caused the I-90 accident. By learning what factor prompted the crash, we can better understand how we should proceed to avoid a similar accident in the future.
If you are a motorcyclist, consider taking defensive riding courses as a refresher. They can help you to better understand how to prevent accidents caused by distracted drivers.
And if you’re a driver, remember that the law is clear: cell phone use is not allowed while you’re behind the wheel.
While driving, remember to always keep your eyes peeled for riders. Especially when changing lanes.
