Many auto recalls are launched after people are injured. Others are announced promptly after the company learns about a potential equipment issue. Whether your vehicle was impacted by a recall that has been associated with crashes or not doesn’t matter. Instead, what’s important is to make sure that you’re not a victim by having your vehicle repaired as soon as possible.
The latest major recall campaign we learned about comes from Fiat Chrysler, a rather popular brand of vehicles.
According to a series of news reports, Fiat Chrysler is recalling 1.8 million pickup trucks in the United States over an issue associated with the vehicles’ transmission.
The vehicles impacted include the 2010 through 2017 Ram 2500 and 3500, the 2011 through 2017 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs, and the 2016 and 2017 Ram 3500 chassis cabs that come with a gross vehicle weight rating of fewer than 10,000 pounds. Reports also claim that some 2009 through 2017 Ram 1500 pickups have also been impacted.
The shifters mounted to the steering columns in these vehicles may be impacted by a problem that may arise when the brake pedal is pressed for a long period while the vehicle is idling in the Park mode. If the issue occurs, then it will disable the brake-transmission shift interlock, allowing the shifter to move out of park mode.
So far, the company has learned of a “small number” of crashes as well as seven injuries that may have been related to the issue. Since this problem impacts over one million of vehicles in the United States, drivers should not ignore the risks.
Impacted vehicle owners should expect to receive recall announcements in the mail. They will be able to have their vehicles fixed promptly and for free.
