After Hundreds of Incidents, Samsung Recalls Washers

Every now and then, we hear about recall campaigns that are only launched after people are injured.

While many of these recalls are usually associated with products that were promptly recalled, many of these issues only catch the attention of the manufacturer long after several customers suffer greatly. When these instances take place, we like to make sure our Washington clients and readers are aware of the issue.

According to the latest reports to come out of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Samsung has recalled several units of its to-load washing machines after the company learned of 733 reports of washing machines experiencing excessive vibration. In some cases, the machine even detached from the washing machine chassis.

Due to the fact at least nine of these incidents resulted in injuries, including broken jaws and other fall-related injuries, this recall was deemed necessary.

Over 2 million of top-loading washing machines have been added to the list of recalled models. Impacted units include 34 models of Samsung top-load washing machines.

Consumers who may have been impacted are being urged to contact Samsung immediately. Impacted consumers will be asked if they want an in-house repair, a rebate to be applied towards the purchase of another Samsung washer or another brand of washing machine plus the installation of the new product, or a full refund, which will only be available to consumers who purchased the washer within the past 30 days of the recall announcement.

Recalled washers were sold at Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, and several other home appliance stores across the country between March 2011 and November 2016.

If you believe you own one of the recalled washing machines, reach out to the company to learn more about how you should proceed to have this issue addressed.

Since this particular recall campaign was launched by a company that sells highly popular products, learning that several incidents occurred and that injuries were reported is concerning. We hope that consumers with the recalled products are being made aware of the risks promptly so that these issues are addressed immediately.
