WSP: Toppenish Man Injured In Suspected DUI Accident On I-82

An unfortunate accident involving a man from Toppenish in Washington may have been prevented if the driver hadn’t been intoxicated, according to the Washington State Patrol. Thankfully, the accident did not result in any fatal injuries.

According to the reports published by local news organizations, a 22-year-old man from Toppenish was sent to the hospital on Saturday after the accident. He had been driving a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban at the time of the crash. According to officials, he was traveling west on Interstate 82 when as soon as he passed Milepost 45, he rear-ended a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu.

The Malibu driver, a 47-year-old woman, is from Sunnyside.

The Suburban was totaled as a result of the accident and the driver was injured. The second driver was not injured, however, her car was also totaled. The unfortunate accident is under investigation as troopers claim that the driver was under the influence.

This isn’t the first accident that was caused because of intoxication to be reported recently. Unfortunately, we are seeing a great number of DUI-related crashes happening across Washington, not just Seattle.

This reality concerns us and it’s because of this concern that we are working our hardest to make sure that our readers and clients are aware of the risks.

Drinking or taking drugs and then driving isn’t just illegal. It’s also dangerous. While this particular accident did not result in fatal injuries, it did send the driver to the hospital.

Like distracted driving, intoxicated driving can cause the driver’s response timing to slow down considerably increasing the risk of major accidents. As such, drivers must act accordingly by never allowing distraction or intoxication to be part of their driving routine.
