Woman Sentenced to 20 Years Over Distracted Driving Crash

Accidents occur nearly daily across the Evergreen state. And with the bad weather making roads even tougher to navigate, crashes end up happening even more often, mostly because motorists are distracted.

While we often report about crashes that happen in our state, we also find it important to report on crashes that happen in other states. Why? Because many of them happen over reasons we often discuss in our blog. And we like our readers to stay informed and learn from other people’s mistakes. With that in mind, we decided to report on a tragic crash involving a driver who was both intoxicated and distracted while behind the wheel. In this case, the driver was brought to justice. But unfortunately, many aren’t.

The reports show that a 28-year-old woman who was intoxicated was also using her phone to text while behind the wheel of her 1997 Honda Accord, keeping her too distracted to pay attention to the road. She was traveling in the southbound lane of a local road when she veered into oncoming traffic. Her vehicle crashed into a motorcyclist was traveling north. The motorcycle was carrying a couple, and they were both killed as a result of the tragic accident.

The couple’s children spoke during the sentencing hearing, demonstrating how difficult this entire ordeal has been to them.

During the hearing, the judge sentenced the distracted driver to 20 years in prison. Ten for each person she killed in this distracted driving tragic crash.

While we’re extremely saddened to have learned that the couple succumbed to their injuries as a result of this tragic distracted driving crash, we are also hopeful that this story will help other drivers be better while behind the wheel.

Whether you believe that you’re immune to this type of crash or not does not matter. Distractions and intoxication can both increase the risks of crashes, making injuries and deaths more likely to occur.

Drivers who are serious about their safety and the safety of their loved ones understand this and thrive by being alert, cautious drivers. Those who do not are often involved in similar accidents, putting their lives, as well as other people’s lives, in grave danger.

We hope you have learned something from this tragic crash. But if you would like more details on this accident, follow this link.
