Intoxicated Driver Arrested After Striking WSP Trooper

Impaired driving continues to be an issue to drivers across the country. In Washington, officials with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission claim that intoxicated driving accidents are on the rise. With 50% of fatal traffic accidents in the state involving drunk driving, it’s clear that Washingtonians must do more to avoid the growing risk.

The latest intoxicated driving accident report from the state comes from Port Orchard.

According to local news outlets, a 41-year-old driver was traveling west on Highway 16 early Sunday morning when he crashed into a state trooper’s vehicle. Officials who responded to the scene of the accident said the man was arrested on suspicion of impairment. Thankfully, the accident did not result in serious injuries.

At the time of the accident, the trooper’s car was parked and its lights were flashing, as the Washington State Patrol officer cleared debris from the road. Officials arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, and reckless endangerment of an emergency worker.

WSP reported that the driver suffered minor injuries. He received medical treatment at the Saint Michael Medical Center.

Intoxicated Driving Accidents Continue To Haunt Drivers Everywhere

According to the available data, while drunk driving accident rates decreased nationwide in 2017, Washington state registered an increase in the number of related crashes. But while drunk driving remains an issue, it isn’t the only one concerning officials.

According to law enforcement, distracted driving continues to be a serious problem. Like drunk driving, distracted driving makes motorists less likely to avoid collisions. That’s why it is so important that drivers take traffic rules seriously.

If you are a driver, put your safety and the safety of your loved ones first: put your phone away and never drink and drive.
