Cyclists Are Giving Up On Riding Thanks To Distracted Driving

In the age of distracted driving, being an innocent bystander either as a pedestrian, bicyclist, or motorcycle rider becomes more dangerous than ever.

In some parts of the country, cyclists are simply giving up on riding their bicycles altogether out of fear that they may be putting their lives in danger thanks to the wave of distracted drivers taking over the roads.

Many say that the decision to put an end to their rides came after they were involved in near-accidents as drivers of large vehicles were simply too distracted. Even those who have been riding most of their lives say they are more scared of doing so on roads ever since the distracted driving phenomenon became a fever across the country.

Thanks in part to the technological revolution that put a smartphone in everyone’s pockets, most drivers believe they too can use their phones while behind the wheel without any consequences. Unfortunately, that’s now how it works.

Drivers, even those who decades of experience, may find themselves in grave danger if they simply ignore the fact that distracted driving can increase the risk of accidents.

Unfortunately, distracted driving tied to phone usage isn’t the only issue putting the lives of countless riders in danger. Drivers have also been exposing themselves and others to danger by being distracted by food, drinks, passengers, pets, and even children in the backseat.

Unless the driver is 100 percent focused on the road ahead, he or she will be putting lives in danger.

While most U.S. states have passed laws against distracted driving, it’s worth to note that even if breaking rules carry fines, drivers will still continue to be distracted no matter what. Some are only driven to change their ways once they learn the hard way that distracted driving leads to serious injuries and even deaths.
