News outlets reported that a 79-year-old Wapato man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident northwest of Wapato Monday morning.
According to reports from the Washington State Patrol, the accident happened shortly before 10:30am at the intersection of Lateral A and Lateral 1 roads. A 64-year-old Moxee man was eastbound in his Ford F-150 pickup truck when he stopped at the stop sign for the intersection. At the same time, the 79-year-old Wapato man was traveling southbound through the intersection with no stop sign. The 64-year-old driver allegedly entered the intersection without yielding to the Wapato man’s Ford Taurus and the two vehicles collided.
The 79-year-old driver was transported by ambulance to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center for the treatment of injuries sustained during the crash. His condition was not available at the time of this release. The 64-year-old driver refused medical treatment at the scene of the crash. Both drivers were reported as having been wearing seat belts during the accident. The Washington State Patrol is continuing their investigation and all charges concerning the accident are still pending.
