At least two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday after an accident on Highway 3 near Chico Way, according to the Kitsap Sun.

The Washington State Patrol said there was heavy rain coming down at the time of the crash at about 3:45 p.m.

A 24-year-old man from Poulsbo was driving a Ford F-350 pickup truck northbound when he reportedly began to slow down due to the rain. A 36-year-old woman from Port Orchard was also headed northbound in a 1992 Jeep Cherokee with a 14-year-old relative riding as a passenger. The Jeep struck the pickup truck in the rear.

The 14-year-old passenger, who reportedly was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to a local medical center. The man who was driving the pickup truck was taken to another regional hospital. Police did not disclose the nature or severity of the injuries.

Police determined that the Jeep was following too closely to the truck and was traveling too fast for the weather conditions at that time.

I hope everyone makes a full recovery from this crash. Motorists must remember to adjust their driving habits to the conditions at the time. Heavy rain reduces visibility, so make sure you slow down and leave yourself plenty of stopping room.
