Volvo is known for car safety. However, the Swedish automaker is now recalling over half a million vehicles over fire concerns. Because this campaign impacts so many vehicles across the US, it’s very important that drivers don’t ignore it.
According to the firm, vehicles produced between 2014 and 2019 could catch fire.
The plastic engine intake manifolds in the S60, S80, S90, V40, V60, V70, V90, XC60 and XC90 lines of vehicles could be faulty, being at risk of melting and causing a fire. Impacted vehicles include only those with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine.
Volvo claims that 507,000 vehicles are impacted.
The firm did not report any fires or accidents associated with the recalled vehicles. However, the risks are serious, and drivers should not ignore this recall.
Impacted car owners should soon receive a notice in the mail with the details regarding the recall.
2019: A Busy Year For Auto Recalls
While Volvo seldom launches recalls, it’s been a busy year for most automakers thanks in part to the Takata airbag recalls.
From all recalls launched so far, Ford appears to be in particularly troubling situation, with the firm recalling 953,000 cars in January over Takata airbags and 1.8 million cars and pickup trucks in February over fire risks.
In May, Ford recalled a quarter-million Fusions over rollaway risks and in June, Ford recalled more than 1.2 million Explorers over steering control loss.
In July, the firm recalled 58,000 vehicles over a powertrain control module software problem.
On the other hand, Volvo is one of the safest automakers in the market, issuing very few recalls each year. While that is certainly a reason to celebrate if you’re a Volvo car owner, you should still act fast when the firm launches a recall.
