Toyota is recalling nearly 300,000 SUVs over air bag wiring issues that could increase the risk of personal injury.
According to the firm, the Venza SUVs from the 2009 through 2015 year models come with side-door airbags whose wires can rub against a grommet in the door. Over time, the damage can cause the airbag sensor to fail to operate as designed. In the event of a collision, the damaged side air bag sensors will not function correctly and the airbags won’t deploy, exposing the driver to injury risks.
The firm reported in its recall announcement that only the driver’s side air bags are affected.
Toyota Recall Follows Over 50 Warranty Claims Related To Airbags
The automaker disclosed that there were more than 50 warranty claims related to the air bag problems. Car owners who paid for related work will be reimbursed.
If you own one of the recalled vehicles and have not had any issues yet, the firm should be contacting you directly to urge you to schedule a visit to a dealership where the driver’s-side front door wire harness will be replaced if needed.
