Toyota Recalls 280K SUVs Over Personal Injury Risk

Toyota is recalling nearly 300,000 SUVs over air bag wiring issues that could increase the risk of personal injury.

According to the firm, the Venza SUVs from the 2009 through 2015 year models come with side-door airbags whose wires can rub against a grommet in the door. Over time, the damage can cause the airbag sensor to fail to operate as designed. In the event of a collision, the damaged side air bag sensors will not function correctly and the airbags won’t deploy, exposing the driver to injury risks.

The firm reported in its recall announcement that only the driver’s side air bags are affected.

Toyota Recall Follows Over 50 Warranty Claims Related To Airbags

The automaker disclosed that there were more than 50 warranty claims related to the air bag problems. Car owners who paid for related work will be reimbursed.

If you own one of the recalled vehicles and have not had any issues yet, the firm should be contacting  you directly to urge you to schedule a visit to a dealership where the driver’s-side front door wire harness will be replaced if needed.

It is important to keep in mind that you should never wait until an accident takes place for you to act. If you have concerns about your vehicle now and fear you could be exposed to injury risks, contact the manufacturer at 800-331-4331 to have your questions answered.

Toyota’s number for this recall is 21TB01/21TA01.

Stay Alert: Update Your Contact Information With The Automaker

Many drivers are not warned about an open recall because they purchased their vehicle used or because they never updated their contact information with the automaker after moving.

In order to stay on top of the latest recall information, make sure your car’s maker has your updated address. In addition, make a habit of visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website and plugging your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) to check for any open recalls.

Be proactive to avoid accidents and injuries
