The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced recently that at least two major automakers have launched recall campaigns associated with issues that could lead to crash risks.
While the three most recent campaigns are all associated with the same potential crash risks, the issued that have led to these recalls are not the same.
The NHTSA reports show that Honda has released two recall campaigns. The first was launched to ensure that the 2015 and 2016 CBR300RA, CBR300R and CB300F motorcycles fitted with improperly machined crankshafts are repaired promptly. In the improperly machined crankshaft, the rod bearing retainer might not be connected properly, and the engine may stall unexpectedly, exposing riders to potential accident risks.
The second Honda recall was launched after the firm learned that the 2016 Civic 2-door vehicles manufactured between February 23 and May 20, 2016 were fitted with tail light assemblies that may have been equipped with potentially damaged LED side marker light circuit boards. If that’s the case, the marker light may not be operable and vehicle visibility may suffer as a result, increasing the risk of an accident.
Recalled vehicle owners should be contacted between now and late August. Repairs should be performed entirely for free.
General Motors Recalls Vehicles Over Stalling Risk That Could Lead to Crashes
The third auto recall campaign consumers should not ignore has to do with General Motors.
According to the NHTSA, recalled vehicles include the 2016 Malibu Hybrid vehicles manufactured between October 27, 2015 and June 3, 2016.
These units come with shut-off switches for the high voltage batteries that are used while the vehicle is being serviced. Since the manual service disconnect switch may not be properly installed and it may not lock into position, the high-voltage power may become disconnected unexpectedly. If that occurs while the vehicle is in use, the engine will stall.
GM has announced that all impacted vehicle owners will be contacted in the near future. The vehicles’ MSD will then be inspected at dealers and the installation will be corrected for free.
Hopefully, vehicles impacted by neither of these recalls will expose any consumer to accident risks.
