ATV accident, Kittitas County, Seattle personal injury lawyer

A tragic accident involving an ATV claimed four lives in Kittitas County, news outlets have reported. The incident happened Saturday and 911 was called, prompting officials to arrive at the scene of the accident moments later.

Currently, officials with the Kittitas County Sheriff’s office are still investigating and have not disclosed what factors led to the deadly incident.

No other vehicles were involved.

Four People In Their 20s Dead Following Tragic Fiery ATV Accident

The Seattle Times reported that Kittitas County Sheriff deputies were called to the scene of an accident in the Wenatchee-Okanogan National Forest west of Liberty around 4 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle involved, a Polaris Razor side-by-side ATV, had rolled over and caught on fire while traveling on a dirt road. While emergency personnel and medics arrived within minutes to aid the victims, two of the four people involved, a 24-year-old and a 23-year-old, died at the scene.

The 24-year-old owner of the ATV as well as a 26-year-old died later in the hospital as a result of the severity of their burns.

The area where the accident took place is a popular destination for campers and ATV riders.

Company Recalled ATV Models Months Before Accident

Polaris launched a recall for 2021 through 2023 RZR Pro XP 4 and 2022 and 2023 RZR Turbo R 4 recreational off-road vehicles in May following five reports of fuel leaks as well as one report of a fire. That wasn’t the first time Polaris dealt with fiery incidents involving its ATVs, however.

Over the years, the company has struggled with reports of fiery incidents involving its Polaris RZRs, which included deadly accidents. Despite several recalls, ATV owners continued to report issues until very recently.

While officials are still investigating this tragic Kittitas County ATV accident, we hope Polaris as well as other ATV manufacturers are working around the clock to prevent similar accidents.

Manufacturers have a responsibility to produce safe products and to ensure that potential equipment failure is addressed as soon as issues are discovered. Processes must be put in place to ensure production quality so that issues can be identified before these vehicles are made available to the public.
