News sources reported that the Washington State Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Division is participating in the annual Operation Safe Driver week with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) this week.

According to a news release from the Patrol, troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers (CVEO) will be conducting comprehensive inspections of commercial vehicles, as well as other roadside enforcement activities, across the state. Their focus will be on driver behavior of both the commercial drivers and that of the other vehicles surrounding them on the road.

Captain Darrin Grondel of the Commercial Vehicle Division, said, “Last week our officers were riding in commercial vehicles and targeting cars and trucks that drove aggressively are the big trucks. This week our CVEOS and troopers will focus on inspecting commercial vehicles and the drivers to ensure they are following good safety practices.”

The Washington State Patrol participated in the 2010 Operation Safe Driver event and inspected 2,133 commercial vehicles during that time, placing 233 vehicles and 89 drivers out of commission.
