Speeding Driver Dies in Head-On Collision

One man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on car accident near Olympia, according to news reports.

The fatal accident occurred when a 22-year-old Olympia man was reportedly speeding in his Honda Civic along Highway 101. As he was driving erratically in excess of 100 mph, he exited Highway 101. The driver continued to travel west on 62nd Avenue SW when he reportedly missed a curve in the roadway and drove into oncoming lanes at Nels Avenue and crashed head-on into a black SUV, according to news reports.

The 22-year-old was killed at the scene on the crash, according to news reports.

The driver of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia, according to news reports.

Washington State Highway Patrol troopers said the highway was blocked for much of Tuesday evening while the scene was cleared and investigated.

It is unclear what factors played a role in this collision. The accident is being investigated.
