Commuters on Interstate 5 were shocked Monday morning to see a semi-truck fire near Cherry Street downtown Seattle. The blazing truck fire occurred around 9 a.m. in the northbound lane on I-5. The truck’s cab caught fire, sending up a huge plume of black smoke, according to news reports.
Luckily, no injuries were reported in the semi-truck fire. Traffic, however, was slowed during the morning rush hour commute, backing up the northbound lanes for 3 miles and slowing down the left lanes while drivers looked at the fiery spectacle.
It took nearly an hour to extinguish the fire, which was reportedly out by 9:50 a.m.
As a Seattle car accident lawyer, I’m glad to hear that no injuries occurred in this vehicle fire incident along the busy freeway. Vehicle fires are a huge distraction to drivers as they try to avoid coming near the vehicle but also slow down to look at the scene. It’s important for drivers to stay focused to avoid collisions with stalled vehicles like this one. Thankfully, the driver of the truck escaped harm as well.
