News sources reported that a Vietnam Veteran motorcyclist of Post Falls was killed and 2 others injured in a motorcycle accident during a Combat Vet Riders ride from Cheney to St. John Saturday.
According to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, approximately 30 members of the Combat Vet Riders were riding on Rock Lake Road near Dewy Road around 11:35am on Saturday when three motorcycles carrying a total of four people left the roadway and crashed. A 64-year-old man and his 65-year-old female passenger, for reasons unknown, drifted onto the shoulder and went down an embankment. Their bike then traveled into a field where he lost control of the bike and flipped. The motorcycle landed on the riders, seriously injuring both. They were taken to Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane for treatment.
The Post Falls motorcyclist was following the couple at the time of their accident when he drove onto the gravel shoulder and lost control. He was taken by helicopter to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, but succumbed to injuries sustained during his accident. A third motorcyclist sustained a shoulder injury after leaving the roadway at the same site.
The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation, and do not believe that drugs or alcohol played any role in the accident.
