Pedestrian Dies Days After Drunken Driving Crash

A Sequim man died as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident Thursday, according to news reports.

The 50-year-old man was taken off life support Saturday, two days after he was struck by walking on a sidewalk by a drunken driver.

The incident occurred Thursday around 7:15 a.m. when a 51-year-old man driving a Jeep Wrangler struck the pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk along the 600 block of East Washington Street in Sequim. The drunken driver reportedly drove about 30 to 50 feet on the sidewalk, striking the man. After he hit the pedestrian, he continued driving for approximately 11 blocks, according to news reports.

Police caught up to the suspected driver and tested his blood-alcohol level, which was at 0.147 percent about 30 minutes after the hit-and-run.

The pedestrian was taken off life support machines at about 4 p.m. at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to news reports.
