Organic Strawberries, Spinach Recalled

Organic strawberries in states near Washington are being recalled because the could be contaminated with E. coli, according to news reports.

Organic strawberries from Jaquith Strawberry Farm are being recalled Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona. The berries have been linked to the first ever E. coli outbreak involving strawberries.

According to news reports, the contaminated berries were sold to people who resold them at roadside stands and farmers’ markets. Investigators believe the berries were contaminated with deer feces.

So far, sixteen people have been sickened and one has died due to eating the contaminated berries, according to news reports.

Along with the berries, the states are also dealing with an organic spinach recall.

“Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Inc., which operates stores in California, Arizona and Nevada, has issued a recall on its store-brand five-ounce bags of organic baby spinach. Random testing revealed listeria contamination in one bag of spinach. No illnesses have been reported and no cause for the contamination has been released,” according to news reports.

As a Seattle personal injury lawyer, I urge consumers who may have these recalled organic produce to throw them out or return them to the store of purchase for a full refund. Consumers should also be aware of cross-contamination from the produce.
