One person was killed and others were injured in a two-car accident in Lacey on Wednesday afternoon, according to news reports.

The fatal car accident occurred when two small Sports Utility Vehicles were traveling in opposite directions along the the 3300 block of two-way Carpenter Road Southeast in Lacey. One of the vehicles crossed the center line, crashing head-on into the other SUV.

A woman in her 20s died after being transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Two others were hospitalized. Their injuries and conditions are unknown, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The collision caused one of the SUVs to burst into flames. A trooper said he believes the flaming vehicle “possibly contained three people, including the female passenger who was airlifted to Harborview and later died. There were no passengers in the other vehicle,” according to news reports.

Another man and woman were taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia after the crash and later transferred to Harborview. It is unclear whether a fourth person was taken to a hospital or injured.

It is unclear what caused the head-on collision. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the crash, according to news reports.
