One man died Wednesday afternoon and one passenger was injured after their car ran off the road and hit a tree in Lynnwood.
Two people were in the car driving northbound in the Cypress Way between Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace at about 5 p.m. The car left the road, landed in a ditch and hit a tree, according to a news release from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver died at the scene and the passenger was transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries. He is, however, expected to make a recovery, as his injuries aren’t life-threatening.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and it is unclear why the driver went off the road. The crash is being investigated, according to news reports.
As a Seattle car accident attorney I’m saddened to hear about this tragic accident. There are various reasons why a driver can veer of the road, so it’s hard to guess a reason why this car accident occurred. Sleepiness or inattention while driving, however, are common causes car accidents involving a vehicle leaving the road. I urge drivers to stick to the designated speed limits and avoid other distractions such as talking or texting on cellphones, eating and drinking.
