A man who was seriously injured in a suspected drunken driving car accident is a Ferndale Police officer, according to news reports.
According to the Washington State Patrol, a 46-year-old Ferndale Police officer who crashed into a tree off of Ferndale Road on Sunday may have been under the influence of alcohol. The off-duty officer was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, and was seriously injured in the crash.
The officer was transported to PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Hospital in Bellingham where he is in serious condition, according to news reports. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
The Washington State Patrol said they will be investigating this drunken driving accident. So far, no charges against the officer have been reported.
“We’re not going to investigate this any differently than we would if it was any other collision we would deal with on any other day,” a WSP spokesperson said to news reports.
As a Bellingham personal injury lawyer, I’m disappointed to hear about this drunken driving car accident, especially because it involves an officer who probably sees the effects of drinking and driving on a normal basis. I hope this car accident reminds people to never drink and drive. The accident not only affects those who are injured, but also those close to the victims who will now have to pay for making the mistake of drinking and driving.
