New Cell Phone Law Has Reverse Effect

As a Seattle personal injury attorney I’ve been trying to keep you up to date on all the cell phone law issues that have been going on in the news recently. To day I just read this article about a gentleman that was riding his bike along the Malaga-Alcoa Highway (at approximately 3:30 p.m.) when he struck a car that was parked alongside the highway.

The driver had pulled over to the side of the road so that they wouldn’t violate the “no talking or texting on your cell phone while driving” law. Back in May I wrote about this very idea. That cars pulled over to the side of the road may also cause a problem. It should be noted that the driver of this vehicle was legally parked along the side of the road.

The article I read said that the cyclist was riding with his head down and didn’t see the parked car. Because he didn’t see the car he crashed into the back of it resulting in serious injuries. The cyclist was wearing his helmet, which is a good thing.

This is certainly something that needs to be addressed. We as a society need to pay more attention to everything around us. As a driver we should be more aware of cyclists on the roadways and as a cyclist we should pay attention to cars and other motor vehicles that we share the road with. I hope that the cyclist heals fast.
