One person died and three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident near Colville on Tuesday, according to news reports.

The fatal accident occurred around 1:55 p.m. when a 74-year-old man driving northbound on Highway 365 in a Jeep Cherokee reportedly crossed the centerline. As he lost control of his vehicle and crossed over the highway, he crashed head-on into a 17-year-old driving a Volkswagon Jetta in the southbound lane.

The 74-year-old man died at the scene of the accident. The 17-year-old girl was injured and transported to Providence Mount Carmel Hospital with undisclosed injuries. A 10-year-old and 8-year-old passengers were also injured.

Washington State Police investigators believe the man was driving too fast for conditions, causing him to lose control and crash into the minors.

The accident blocked both lanes of Highway 395 for several hours, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The accident is being investigated.
