A 57-year-old man from Grandview in Yakima County has died from injuries following an accident at a cherry orchard, according to the Yakima Herald.

The sheriff’s department reported that the man was operating a tractor and spraying the orchard on Tuesday night. He reportedly became pinned somehow between the tractor and a tree branch.

A worker and a passerby tried to free the man. However, he was dead by the time medical personnel arrived on scene. The exact cause of death has not been released, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

I am very saddened to hear this news, and my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.

I encourage a full investigation into what happened to try to learn from this incident and ensure that it does not happen to other workers. I hope that every workplace, especially those dealing with large machinery, has safety measures in place to make the work environment as safe as possible.

Sometimes mistakes do happen, but we all need to work together to make sure the risks are minimized.

If there are changes in procedure that are needed to make sure tractor operators are not trapped by tree branches or other obstacles, then that should happen as soon as possible.
