Investigators are trying to determine the details in a Sunday car accident involving a Washington State Patrol trooper near Spokane, Wash., according to news reports.

The Washington State Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team is looking for witnesses who may have seen the crash on Sunday or any event leading up to or following the crash.

The incident occurred south of Ritzville around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday when a state trooper finished a traffic stop on northbound U.S. Highway 395 and was stopped along the side of the road on a paved portion of the shoulder, according to news reports. A semi-tuck rear ended the patrol car, demolishing the vehicle and injuring the trooper. The trooper was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where he was listed in satisfactory condition Monday.

It is unclear why the truck was driving on the shoulder, according to news reports.

As a Spokane personal injury lawyer, I urge anyone with information on this crash to call police at (360) 805-1192 or (360) 805-1195. I hope the trooper injured makes a full and speedy recovery. I urge drivers to always pay attention to other drivers around them and those that might be stalled on the side of the road, to potentially avoid accidents like this.
