Media sources reported that a 50-year-old Port Orchard woman suffered minor injuries in a car accident in Gorst Monday afternoon.
The Washington State Patrol stated that the accident occurred shortly after 4:30pm on Highway 3. The woman was traveling southbound on Highway 3 in her Ford Focus and being tailed by a close-following flatbed truck. When the Port Orchard woman slowed to turn into a business, the flatbed truck struck the rear of her vehicle near Sam Christopherson Road.
The 50-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to Naval Hospital for the treatment of undisclosed injuries, however her injuries were not believed to be life threatening. The 42-year-old driver of the flatbed truck was not injured in the accident. Both drivers were reported as having worn seatbelts during the accident. The driver of the flatbed truck was cited for following the Ford Focus too closely. Washington State Patrol officials stated that they do not believe alcohol or excessive speeds were contributing factors in this accident.
