A two-vehicle car crash yesterday left a Yakima woman with a broken neck. The accident occurred in Douglas County in the morning hours. The 18-year old woman who was involved in the crash was immediately airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane and though she suffered a broken neck, she was listed in satisfactory condition later in the day. As a Seattle personal injury lawyer, I can safely say this young woman is extremely lucky that the damage to her neck vertebrae didn’t leave here paralyzed.
Two other people were injured in the crash as well, both residents from the Yakima area. One 17-year old boy suffered bumps and bruises and was transported to Columbia Basin Hospital. A 20 year-old man sustained some internal and chest injuries and was treated at Sacred Heart Medical Center as well. The 17 year old boy had been driving south on SR 17 when he was hit by a Chevy pickup truck driven by a 48 year-old man from Coulee City. The man neglected to stop at the intersection and subsequently struck the teenagers vehicle. That driver only suffered a broken hand.
According to the news release from the Washington State Patrol, they do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a part in this accident. The 18 year-old girl who broke her neck in the car accident was not wearing a seat belt. I wish her a speedy recovery and I hope this accident will serve as a reminder for just how important it is to buckle up when you’re riding in a car.
