Elderly Woman Killed in Head-On Crash

An elderly woman died in a car accident Monday afternoon near Olympia, according to news reports.

The fatal head-on collision occurred when the 83-year-old woman of Olympia was driving west on Yelm Highway. As she was traveling on the road, a pickup truck attempted to turn left onto Yelm from Waldon.

The truck driver, a 29-year-old Olympia man, reportedly undershot the turn and crashed head-on into the woman’s car, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The woman was transported to St. Peter Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was also transported to the hospital. He reportedly sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Washington State Patrol troopers are unclear the exact cause of the collision. It is unknown if the truck driver was driving under the influence of alcohol or driving while distracted. The accident is being investigated.
