One man was seriously injured in a car accident when he fell asleep at the wheel, according to news reports.
The car accident occurred when the 86-year-old man from Yelm was driving his 1994 Toyota pickup on 138th Avenue at Bald Hills Road, according to the Washington State Patrol. While he was driving westbound on 138th, he fell asleep. The drowsy man drifted his truck to the right shoulder, then veered back to the left, striking a tree and fence to the left of the road, according to the State Patrol.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, and was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia after the crash. His injuries and current condition is unknown, according to news reports.
Investigators do not believe drugs and alcohol played a role in the crash.
As a Tacoma car accident attorney, I hope the man didn’t sustain life-threatening injuries in this crash. I hope he is able to quickly recover from his injuries. I urge drivers to never drive when they are too tired to pay attention to the road, as drowsy driving is just as dangerous and distracted driving and drinking and driving.
