Dodge Ram pickup trucks are being recalled because the tie rods can break, causing the driver to potentially lose control of the steering wheel.
Approximately 242,780 Dodge Ram pickup trucks are affected by the recall. Included in the recall are:
- certain 2008 to 2011 model-year Ram 2500 and 3500 4×4 models
- Ram 3500 chassis-cab 4×2 trucks built from Feb. 14, 2008, through March 28, 2011
- 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4×4 models built from Feb. 14, 2008, through Aug. 15, 2008
- Ram 2500 and 2500 models from the 2003 to 2008 model years may also be affected because the faulty tie rod assembly could have been installed as a replacement part.
The issue lies in the “their left-side tie rods can break allowing the left front when to move independently, without control of the steering wheel. The resulting loss of directional stability could increase the risk of a crash,” according to the news reports.
