Detectives were on a stakeout at the Highline Medical Center Campus in Tukwila around 10 o clock on Tuesday night when a near-deadly series of events unfolded. According to Sergeant Mark Howie from the Tukwila Police Department, “They had been watching this vehicle. It was doing some suspicious activity and so they (detectives) both approached the vehicle and identified themselves to the driver.”
As the detectives neared the vehicle, the driver shifted into reverse and sped backward, almost running over one of the officers. In the process the driver ran into a parked car. The detective, fearing for his life, fired off several shots at the pickup truck while it fled the scene. Police weren’t able to catch up to the man right away but they eventually found the pickup truck abandoned near the S 188th Street exit of Interstate 5. Within a short amount of time they were able to locate the 37 year-old Gig Harbor man and arrested him.
According to this news report from KING 5, the man was charged with a hit and run and vehicular assault at the King County Jail. As a Seattle car accident attorney, I wasn’t too surprised to hear that the driver had a criminal record to boot. Luckily neither the detective or anyone else suffered any personal injury in the incident.
