Speed Tied To Seattle Crash Involving Car, Train

Every now and then, we hear about a crash that concern us. In order to help our readers and clients to better understand how important it is to remain focused on the road, we like to share these stories in the hopes that perhaps, they will learn from other people’s mistakes.

According to a series of local news reports, transportation officials had to alert people they should take alternate routes after a vehicle collided into a Light Rail train on Tuesday night. The service was disrupted and at least one person was taken to the hospital as a result of the crash.

The crash happened when a silver Chevrolet Tahoe was speeding on the westbout lanes of South Holgate Street. As it approached a series of stopped vehicles in front of a lowered crossing arm, indicating that a train was in transit. Because of the vehicle’s high speed, the driver was unable to slow the car down. To avoid a collision, the driver veered the car to the side, jumped the median and then, hit the northbound train.

Nobody on board of the train was injured, but the driver of the vehicle was rushed to the hospital. His injuries were described as non life-threatening.

As officials investigate the crash, safety advocates urge drivers across Seattle to pay attention to speed limits and other road rules. Never ignore risks associated with speeding, especially if you’re not paying attention to the road. When you’re driving at high rates of speed, it’s more difficult to slow down under certain circumstances. If you’re serious about your safety, make sure to respect speed limits. Put your phone down, and focus on the road. Ignoring the risks associated with speeding may lead to similar crashes.

If you’re serious about your safety and the safety of others, drive safely and responsibly at all times. For more on this crash, click here or watch the video below.
