Fire, Air Bag Issues Prompt Fiat Recall After Incidents Are Reported

We have been reporting on several auto, motorcycle, and other types of accidents. Unfortunately, many other issues have also been concerning us and other car safety enthusiasts.

According to a series of news reports, Fiat Chrysler has announced that it’s recalling over one million cars due to fire and air bag issues that could pose serious hazards to consumers everywhere.

Vehicles impacted in North America include all 2011 through 2015 Dodge Journey units.

The main issue that prompted this recall involves wiring problems that could cause the driver-side air bag to deploy on its own. Since the wiring could chafe against pieces of steering-wheel trim, a short-circuit may occur, causing the air bag to deploy unexpectedly. This issue has already been responsible for at least five reports of minor injuries as an unexpected air bag deployment may lead to injuries.

The wiring should be thoroughly inspected and replaced if needed for free at Fiat Chrysler dealers.

But that’s not the only issue Fiat is recalling vehicles over. According to reports, over 500,000 units manufactured by Fiat Chrysler are also being recalled because alternators are exposing impacted vehicle owners to fire risks.

Recalled vehicles that are exposed to hot ambient temperatures may experience premature diode wear, which could lead to smoke or odor, causing impact to anti-locking braking systems or cause engines to stall. This recall has been potentially associated with at least two accidents but no injuries were registered.

Consumers with the 2011 through 2014 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger cars as well as the Durango SUVs and the 2012 through 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs should contact Fiat Chrysler immediately to learn more about the campaign.

While we are not sure whether Fiat Chrysler will be contacting impacted vehicle owners directly or not, we’re sure that all impacted car owners will want to know about this campaign.

Never ignore a similar campaign once you learn about it. Do all in your power to have the issue addressed so that your vehicle is safely repaired promptly so you may avoid accidents or injuries.
