Man Pleads Guilty to DUI Crash Killing Two Teens

A drunk driver who killed two high school students in a car accident last year pled guilty Wednesday for the collision, according to news reports.

The man now faces a maximum of eight-and-a-half year prison sentence for the DUI crash that killed two students set to graduate Decatur High School last year, according to news reports. The incident occurred on Interstate 5 near Southcenter. The high schoolers were in a car that had stalled and couldn’t make it to the shoulder of the freeway. The student turned on his emergency blinkers to warn drivers, but the drunken driver crashed his SUV into the back of the car.

He had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 shortly after the crash, which is twice the legal limit in Washington state. The incident is the man’s third DUI arrest.

The plea deal will potentially shorten his sentence, which is scheduled for March.

As a Tacoma personal injury lawyer, I remember hearing about this tragic accident that took the life of these teenagers who were set to graduate high school three days after the collision. My condolences go out to the friends and families of these victims who are still dealing with this tragic incident. It will be up to the judge to determine the severity of sentencing for this drunk driver.
